1. The short version

TipSplit does not have accounts and does not run a server that stores your data. The bills, names, history and settings you enter stay on your device. The app shows ads served by Google AdMob, which may collect device information as described below.

2. Information stored on your device

To work, TipSplit saves the following in the app's private storage on your phone:

  • Your saved bill splits (amounts, tip, the names of the people you add, and items).
  • Your settings, such as currency, language, rounding preference and, if you choose to enter it, a payment handle (for example a Venmo or Cash App username) used to build payment-request links.

This information is not sent to us. You can delete it at any time by removing entries in the History screen, clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstalling the app.

3. Camera and receipt scanning

If you choose to scan a receipt, TipSplit asks for permission to use the camera or to pick a photo. Text is recognised on your device using Google ML Kit's on-device text recognition. The receipt image is not uploaded to us. Camera access is optional; you can enter items by hand instead.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

TipSplit displays ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect and use data such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and ad interactions. Google may use this to show personalised or non-personalised ads. This is why the app requests the Internet permission.

On iPhone and iPad, TipSplit asks for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any ads are requested. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, your device's advertising identifier is not shared and you will only see non-personalised ads. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

On Android, you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation in your settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads). Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Sharing, exporting and payment apps

When you tap Share, export a PDF or request money, TipSplit hands the content to the Android share sheet or opens the payment app you selected (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Zelle or UPI) with the amount and note pre-filled. What happens next is governed by the app you choose. TipSplit does not process payments and never sees your financial account details.

6. Home screen widget

If you add the TipSplit widget, it displays information from your on-device data on your home screen. Nothing is transmitted to us.

7. Children's privacy

TipSplit is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Your choices and rights

Because your data stays on your device, you are in control of it: view, edit or delete it in the app, or remove everything by uninstalling. For data handled by Google AdMob, use the controls in your Android settings and Google account. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK or California) you may have additional rights over data collected by Google; those requests are made to Google.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's store listing.
